What is Supported Independent Living?

Supported Independent Living is the name given by NDIS for funding that supports people with disabilities, ensuring they have the opportunity to live their lives as independent as possible. SIL has been developed by NDIS to support people with disabilities and mental illness. This may be in the form of a person receiving full-time support whilst living in their own home. In either case, support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Under the NDIS between two and seven people can share a home, with each person having their own private space. For many people with disabilities or mental illness, it is not viable for them to live on their own or share the family home, so SIL allows people to live in a suitable home whilst receiving day-to-day support.
